Wonderscape Academy10th grade

10th grade: a year of proof, reactions and the modern world

A complete tenth grade year for parents and teachers: 36 weeks and about 180 school days of world literature, writing, Geometry, Chemistry and Modern world history, built from Common Core, NGSS and C3 standards. September through December include a full plan for every day; January through June include weekly skills, word study, centers and a five-day outline.

The year

Every month from September to June has day-by-day plans with steps, materials, standards and a printable page, plus a month overview and a plan for each week.

A 10th grade day

Every day plan follows the same order, so children know what comes next. Short on time? Do the morning meeting, phonics, reading and math (about 75 minutes), and fold science or social studies into the read-aloud.

Every child, every level

If reading is hard

Tenth grade texts are long and the sentences can be dense, so pair the print book with an audiobook and read the key passage twice: once for what happens, once for how it is written. Give a short list of the passages that matter most rather than skipping the reading. Let students talk through a claim and point to the line before they write, and use the frame 'The text says... this shows... this matters because...' for every response.

If geometry is hard

Geometry rewards drawing. Have the student sketch and label every figure before doing anything else, mark what is given with tick marks and arcs, and say out loud what they know. For proofs, start with fill-in-the-blank proofs where only the reasons are missing, then only the statements, then a full proof. Keep an algebra review card (solving equations, square roots, ratios) on the desk, since most stalls are algebra stalls.
