Privacy Policy
Last updated October 31, 2026 (speech and narrator voices explained in more detail).
The short version
- Accounts are for parents, teachers and homeschool families who are 18 or older. Children do not create accounts.
- We never ask children for their name, email, location, photo or any other personal information.
- Nothing a child says or types in the games and quests is saved or sent to us. If a child uses the microphone, the web browser itself turns the speech into text (see "Speaking to the games" below).
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not show ads.
What we collect from grown-ups
- Account details: your email address, an optional name, whether you are a parent, teacher or homeschool family, and your password (stored only as a one-way scrambled hash we cannot read).
- Sign-in records: a sign-in cookie, the date of your last sign-in, and short security logs (for example, failed sign-in attempts and the network address they came from) to protect your account.
- Progress records (only when you are signed in): learner nicknames you choose (please use a nickname, not a full name), and for each learner the games, quests and day plans finished, first-try scores, the standards practiced and dates. You can rename or remove a learner, and their records, at any time from the progress report page.
- Payments: if you buy a membership, payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us. We keep a Stripe customer reference and your membership status.
What happens on the device
Some settings, like sound, music, captions, high contrast and the grade you picked, are kept in your own browser so the site remembers them. They stay on your device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Narrator voices are created through our server by a speech service from the text of the lesson, and each line is saved so it is made only once. Only the site’s own lesson text is sent, never anything a child says or types.
Speaking to the games
The microphone button is optional; children can always tap or type instead. When it is used, speech-to-text is done by the web browser, not by Wonderscape. Some browsers do this on the device. Others, including Google Chrome, send the audio to the browser maker (for example Google) to turn it into text, and that company’s privacy policy covers it. Only the resulting words come back to the page, and they are used right away to check the answer. We never receive, record or store the audio or the words.
When a game repeats a child’s answer back (for example “I heard cat, try again”), that line is spoken by the device’s own built-in voice and is never sent to our server or to our voice service.
When nobody is signed in, quest badges and scores stay in the open browser tab and are erased when it closes.
Cookies
We use one cookie, ws_sess, to keep you signed in. It is marked secure and cannot be read by other sites or by scripts on the page. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use information
To run your account, send the emails you need (confirming your address, resetting your password, membership notices), keep the service secure, and answer your questions. We do not send marketing email unless you ask for it.
Sharing
We share information only with services that help us run Wonderscape Academy (web hosting, email delivery and Stripe for payments), and only what they need. We will disclose information if the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your account until you ask us to delete it. Email info@wonderscapeacademy.com from the address on your account and we will delete it, usually within 7 days. Security logs are kept for up to 12 months.
Children's privacy
Wonderscape Academy is designed for children to use with a grown-up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and let account holders know by email.
